here is another of his knives, a 60s etched canoe.

John and 9-ball, Could you guys enlighten me on these two knives? Is the seller misrepresenting them. The first one, I have never seen one like it, and wouldn't have a clue as to what to look for, or value. The Case Canoe, I have seen one similar to that, but can't recall the specifics on the year the knife was made.

The seller of the Canoe has edited his auction to reflect that Case didn't begin etching the Canoe like that until the mid seventies, IIRC.
At least he appears to be a straight shooter and did the right thing.

I collect Lobsters or that style of knife when I find one I like. Case made some of these for The Toledo Scale Company back in the late 40's-early 50's.
They (Case) found some left over parts in the early 70's and re-released them and this is one as the one in the LF&C thread below.

Both have the same tang stamp on the master blade also:
CASE XX
STAINLESS
No pattern number or anything else.

The only difference are the "Dots" are located on the brass handles/scales around the colored design on the newer ones, the old ones are smooth. I have owned several and sometimes the fonts or style of stamp is or maybe a little different, but they are the same stamp in general.
I will post the two together in another forum soon. If you have any of the old Parker/Voyles Guide to Collector knives, there are B&W photo's of them there also.

Some folks just do not know the tale. Still no reply to my email.

El Lobo, What would the difference in price be between the original knives and the ones from the 70's. Considerable, I would imagine.

I'm not as versed in the older Case knives as many of the folks here are, so maybe they can add/correct where appropriate.

It looks like there was a 10 dot STAG Canoe with etching, that "Books" around $300. Then the BONE Canoe of slightly later is listed at $95. This is from Houston Price's latest guide...other information (like Tony Foster) may certainly vary. EBAY will probably give us the best idea of a current perceived value.

Others may be along with more or better.

hey jim, case etched the first canoe in 1974.

Ok, Seller replied to my email and posted the first email to the auction. Very friendly, I will add also. Said he would pay us a visit here at AAPK.

For what it is worth:
The new Pocket Knife Trader's Guide #8 has the newer Toledo Scale at $150 and the older one at $250.
