All About Pocket Knives

Here are two Pal RH-36 WWII utility fighting knives that from first look are the same. Then you notice the false edge and how they are differently ground. Anyone care to venture an answer or just attribute it to some groinder on one day just had a brain malfunction. Actually it offers up an evening of conversation when you think about it. For what it is worth the bottom knife was found in the period leather sheath. The other knife rides in the sheath the same other than the difference in blade length.

2 nice looking examples. Different day, different grinder at work. The bottom knife looks like it might be Parkerized. Is it?

It does look it but I don't think it is, there is just no texture to it. I think they were both blued at the beginning. Thanks for looking.

The top knife is worn more, looks like a 1/4" in width and length add that back and the grinds would look the same to me. Whoever owned the top knife reshaped the false edge to make it a useable knife again.

I'm with Dimitri on this one.The top knife looks like it has seen more use than the other one.Could have been someone used it as a sharp prybar and snapped off the tip. Doesn't takr much to re-profile a blade once you've had to do it a couple times(don't ask how I know this).Also the leather washers look like the pommel has loosened up.Could be from age or hard use.

I don't disagree with either of you re: the heavy use. However all the grinding in the world will not undo what has already been ground. The false edge on the top has never gone to beyond the start of the fuller as the bottom knife is showing..
