Unusal Ice Fishing Spear

I have a few nice ice fishing spears but the one I got at an estate sale last week is sort of unusual. The spear with handle length is 63", the spear is 11" by 8 1/4", and the spear to handle connecter is 2 5/8". The double tapered connecter is made of copper (it looks like brass in the picture). I haven't seen this style before. I know this is a long shot but do any of you knife collectors know anything about this type of spear? I am interested in the manufacturer and about how old it is. I do not know anything about it except that it is a very cool spear! I was not aware that ice fishermen used spears.

I wasn't either Mel but when you Google "ice fishing spear images" this is the kind of stuff you come up with.

I believe that is a sturgeon spear for spearing them through the ice in the winter.
