Just one beauty of a knife Joe ... love those big jacks and that one has sweet blades - look pretty near full to me as well!!!! I also like the look of dark ebony handles especially with a nice shield... Thanks for showing it!!!!

What does one use for "wood oil?" I've got one that could use a little bath

I'm not sure what Dave is referring to in terms of "wood oil", but I would put mineral oil on these scales. I like to use it on my kitchen knives too. It gives wooden handles a nice look.

I'm sure the pearl handled pen you referenced is nice, but I can tell you without looking that I like that ebony jack better.

That's a nice knife from a seldom encountered maker.

I fool around with five string banjos. Most banjos have an ebony fingerboard. Most of the collectors and custom builders on the banjo website I frequent prefer sesame seed oil to treat and preserve the ebony.

I have no idea what effect it might have on carbon steel.

I've yet to use it on one of my banjos or a knife.

I think they've said it's available in the spice department of the supermarket or at a pharmacy.

I'll check.

Linseed oil is good for wood along with many other uses.

Here is one marked Linden Knife Co. Possibly Linden NJ? The bone has typical New Jersey jigging (thanks to Dimitri for teaching me that).

Thanks for showing that good looking knife, Steve. I hope I can remember to associate that jigging style to New Jersey knives. This knife has a unique tip on the spear blade. At least that's how it looks to me. It looks like it never quite completed the grinding process.
