All About Pocket Knives

My name is Joe and I'm another collector here in PA. My collection is small, about 50.(Still growing.) Nothing rare, but some nice ones. I just wanted to say hi to everybody in the knife community.

Sorry, no Pittsburgh knives. I've been trying to find out about knives of Pittsburgh, but it seems that there is little history on the subject. I thought there would be alot of information, seeing as Pittsburgh was a steel capital. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places.

Well, if you interested in OLD pocket knives, I can tell about several that were from the Pitts area. But anything newer than 1900's is new to me. Binn & Mason was premier company that became, Pittsburgh Cutler, which became Bever Falls Cutlery, which became Cattaraugus Cutlery. Just a short lesson.

I was out your way this summer visiting my sister. First time out there. Flew into the airport and right back out years ago, But never actually seen the city. We took in a Pirates game, great ballpark. My sister lives in Breckenridge.



Pa Knives, Know of any old knife makers in the Harrisburg area? I'm sure Allentown would have a few.

Yes as a matter of fact there is an old knife company from Harrisburg. I have one. It is stamped GILBERT HARRISBURG PA. It should be noted that most of these types of companies didn't make the knives they sold, they were jobbers, buying knives made by others and stamping them with there name. I have to look back but I believe the the Gilbert knives were made by UUMMMMM, I gosh can't remember off of the top of my head. I wil have to look in my file again. Gosh it is tough to growing older.

Your Hint is well taken. I have been doing some writing. I will be having an article published in Knife World mag. soon on a Tidioute. I do hope to someday do a book on PA knives.Thanks for the encouragement. I truly enjoy this very much

Thanks for dropping by to welcome me. I've learned from reading just a little on this site quite a few knife factories are in PA. I want to visit one before I die. I sure could use some of your cooler air from up there. A feller could learn to hate the heat in S. Miss. pertty quick. Thanks again and hope you stay with us long.
