Hey guys,
Ever put something away and forgot you had it? Found this one in the bottom of the gun cabinent. This is a three dot, 97 I believe. Iwas wondering how long this shield was used.
It is a pretty red bone. Shame its not a peanut. :(

It looks like some of my Chestnut Bone CV's from about that time. It does't have CV on the tang of the Spey blade does it?

Longbeachbum,
No it has ss on the spey blade. Maybe it is chestnut bone. I don't have any known to compare it with. Does ypirs have the same shield?

As far as I know, the only knives I have with that shield are two canoes. One of them is a chestnut bone CV, from the year 2000 according to the seller. However, I've not confirmed this in any way. The other is a SS with green pocketworn bone and I'm pretty sure that one is pretty new, like the last year or two.

I haven't helped you much in dating or identifying your knife, sorry. I'm going to follow this string though since now I'm interested too.

Regards,

Jim

longbeachbum,
I found an example of this shield in the 2004 smokey mountain knife works catalog. A Christmas Tiny Trapper. Also, in the 2005 catalog. It is a Case peacock appaloosa large gunstock, only 500 pieces made. Kinda interesting. I wonder if there is any ryhme or reason as to this shield's use. Or is it just random. I'm sure someone knows.

Yep, that's chestnut bone.
In 2000, I bought one exactly like it (which was a 1999 that had been sitting around). As it tuned out, it had a small crask in a scale, so I sent it back and got a new one in the mail with a different shield (actually made in 2000, judging by tang stamp). Mine were CV, however, not SS.

Peace.
