I have some GEC knives with the Tiger Lily and Dead Skunk acrylic covers. Do any of you know if GEC's acrylic is stable or will it gas out a ruin the blades?

That was a good question. I have a GEC acrylic handle knife and I have wondered that too. Thanks for the info, Jerry.
I have also wondered how long lasting acrylic is? I never saw acrylic handles until a few years ago. I wonder how they will look in a hundred years? Won't matter to me!

I think they should last a very long time. My understanding is that it's basically epoxy, sort of like micarta without the cloth substrate.

"Acrylic" is a generic term for Poly(methyl methacrylate) or PMMA for short, a common thermoplastic.
You might know it better by the trademark names; Plexiglas or Lucite.
It is as stable as any man-made plastic .. .. ..
Did I mention I work in plastics ?

Royal - somehow that does not sound real reassuring! I only have one or two acrylics, so it is not a big deal for me.

Thanks Royal and no, I don't think you did mention that you're "Plastic Man". Good to know.

did not mean to annoy.

I certainly did not find your input annoying. I tend to think of plastics as lasting a few decades at best. That is what I meant by saying that you were not very reassuring.

In a 1000 years, you will probably be able to dig plastics from today, out of a landfill.

thank you mr. royal I really appreciate information from an expert.most of the floor finishes I worked with since the 80s were acrylics & you really appreciate their durability in schools & sororities. I think many of auto top coats were also acrylics. HiPower

I am most definitely not an expert in plastics, or anything else for that matter
I'm not sure how floor finishes, car or spray paint 'acrylics' relate to the type used on the GEC knife covers.
Like I said, it is a generic term. Example : Pugs, Terriers, Labs, Great Danes are all called 'dogs'.
The type most likely used by GEC is technically not biodegradable. It's worst enemy is ....
(drumroll)
.... direct sunlight !

But you are an expert. I didn't know that and I'll bet there were others who didn't know it either. "In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king."

Well they certainly hit one out of the park with Delrin®. It may not come close to matching Celluloid for beauty but it takes home the prize for tough and durable.
