Just wondering.

a lot for a box. his feedback showed he's an avid boy scout collector. maybe he has the knife ..and now the box.

There is several Remington scout knives I wonder which knife goes in that box. Maybe it is like the Case box that they put knives in that came in the larger box, like knifekid was telling us about. I think Remington also sold gift boxes maybe one of them. Remington collector probably knows hope he will help out.

It has been my experience in day's gone by that all or most older, vintage & Antique Remington Arms knife box's bring a very tidy sum at auction (even some of the newer box's bring or have brought $50 or more) ....I have attended many farm auctions in the back woods of Texas where I have seen these older Remington box's go any where from $100 to $300 & they are highly sot after by the serious Remington collector!

I've got one old Remington box at home. I better look at it, I could be sitting on a gold mine.

You never know Jim??? ....All joking aside, you just may be sitting on a good investment???

Let me pose this question to the readers.
How much do you think having the original box adds to the value of a knife? 10%? 15% I guess it would depend on the age and value of the knife, for sure?

My answer to that question would have to depend on the knife brand & how desirable it is out in the hobby today Tom! ....Take for an example the W.R. Case & Sons doted years in the 70's, with their original box I would say 5% to at least 15% in most cases because most of these range in multiple knives in the same pattern for these box's, with the knives that come in the single box's maybe & I'M guessing here 25%. In the Case Classic program (knives of the 90's) the rule to thumb used to be 25% but I feel that has changed to a higher percentage, maybe some where around 30% to 35% & these knives come only in single box's. In the Antique range, these knives with their original box's I would have to say probably even more! ....In all examples I have listed the final percentage would greatly depend on the quality & condition of both, the knife & the box together & how collectible they are in the hobby today!

I collect Scout knives and related items, I believe that box goes with a RS3333 pattern or in that time frame. I have seen them at shows going for around $500 mint w/box.
Roger gave me a heads up on one with box a friend of his had on eB awhile back and it sold just a little over that. Seems like a fair price, $250 or so to me. I will guess and say in this case it adds 50% at least.

Hey Ken, I got around 80 of those Case Classic box's laying around, empty of course & a few dozen Bradford re-call Tins also, gonna set on em for another ten or so years & then sell em or buy the knives to fill em all & keep em!!!

So you see Boys and Girls,

"ALWAYS" keep the box your knife comes in.

Many of my friends here in WV will not buy or trade knives without the original box. The box commands a much better price for the seller. Every once and a while, whenever someone actually doesn't want the box, I just keep it... I know a person that loves to collect specialty boxes. He even collects beer bottle caps. I'm doing my part to build up his bottle cap collection !!!
