What a disappointment!!!

Found this one at a flea market, couldn't open it, got it for 1 dollar. Pile side scale has a big piece missing but for a buck how can you go wrong? Put some oil on the joints and let it set for a while and the opened the 4 blades, what a disappointment! Apparently this one may have been so rusty and pitted that some one filed or ground away all the pitting. The blades are very thin, noticed one so thin, it is flexible, like a filet knife :( .
The tang stamp is completely gone from the "heavy cleaning" so I'm completely in the dark as to the maker of this one is? All 4 blades walk and talk, in fact they still snap like a gator! The punch blade may help some one identify the maker, it has a small ridge extending from the tang about a third of the way toward the tip ::shrug:: .
I must say, whoever did the grinding or filing of the blades did a pretty fair job maintaining the taper of each blade.
Here's some pictures, Nickel silver bolsters, NS center pin, brass pins on the ends of the handles, brass liners and a long narrow NS shield.
Who made this one?

Looks like a Winchester to me. I have a Winchester virtually identical.

The ground off stamps may indicate that it was a factory second. If you can get it cleaned up, see if you can see any remnants of letters at the bottom of each tang.

I've seen that awl. I think on one of Charlie C.s Harness Jack SFOs but I can't remember what knife he copied it from.

A couple more pics to show the swedge on the main clip and the easy open cutouts for the two outside blades, the spay on the mark side and the awl on the pile side and also where the tang stamp should be :( .

I think you have an old Napanoch or Winchester after they bought out Napanoch. Here are a few of mine. The one with the bar shield is Winchester, the other 4 are Jack Knife Ben, Union Stock Yards Chicago. Most of mine have PAT'D 4/7/08 on the back side tang. If you are real lucky you will find one that is stamped PAT APPLIED FOR.

Was I ever surprised to find out this is probably a Winchester! Thanks for the info, boys! ::tu:: Thanks for the pictures Jackknifeben, the stamp on the round side of the punch was all but obliterated, but there is enough to see the "P", part of the "A" and definitely a "4" on the line below. I don't have the camera capabilities to get a real close up, but with the Jerryd recommended, 45 power microscope, slag from some sort of small grinder can be seen on the edges of all the blades, also a lot of directional grinding marks on each blade.
At least I can say I almost found a good one :) .

 I agree it's probably a factory second Winchester, anyway it has a dollars worth of entertainment trying to find out what it was and still is! as always, Terry ::tu::

Been thinkin' about that, Philco ::nod:: .
The only other thing wrong with this old knife, except that some Bozo tried to clean the blades with some type of small grinder, is the springs are so strong I've done ruined my thumb nail playin' with the silly thing. Boy does this one snap! Goin' to have to get a pick so I can use it as an EDC :) .
