I need your opinions. I think the pics of the folders are too dark, maybe add another lamp to the equation, or move back like for a fixed blade and zoom in? My other box ws too small for fixed blades, so it needed to tbe remodeled. Should I try a different background color?

Hi MM. The detail on the knives is excellent. Perhaps you might try a lighter background for comparison. :) s-k

I agree that your detail is nice MM but I also think that the background is a little dark.

Thanks for asking,

I can see you've been working on it, my own pictures are starting to look bad compared to yours.

A bit to much light on the last 2. It is starting to flood out detail by light reflecting off the blades, especially on the second picture. Detail and light was better before.

Try a background of faded Levi's or something similar. Getting there! ::tu:: ::tu::

here si the box. The folder pictures were ok, but my small box wouldn't accomodate the larger fixed blades, so I needed to build a bigger one. Here is the box, a steel rod frame covered with 2 layers of thin white sheet, so far only one lamp shining in from the right but I think another will be in short order. Plus all the natural light in mid day coming in from the window directly above the box. I'll find something lighter to use for a background. The pile of books to the right are usually set dead center in front of the box to act as a tripod :o

MM, if you've got two or three small cheap mirrors, maybe four or five inches high, you could prop them up in front of the knife to reflect light back on it. Of course this will work better with the knives that are propped up. You don't need them right on top of it, eight to ten inches away works fine. A sheet of white paper also works in a pinch. Watch the really light backgrounds, they'll result in a false reading and make the resulting exposure of the knife too dark.
