All About Pocket Knives

I recently got hold off this 721. It's one that I've been aiming to get hold of for quite some time.

I played around with it some last night and packed it on its maiden voyage today. I do believe that this may be my favorite Buck folder.

It isn't blocky or overly heavy like the traditional buck lock backs. The thumb hole allows for one handed opening with the flick of the wrist too.

It rides well in the pocket, and true to its name is slim and doesn't take up much real estate. It does have enough heft though and fills my big hands enough to be very comfortable to use. I also like the slight recurve of the drop point/modified sheepsfoot (whatever it's called) blade. It really pulls whatever is being cut into the blade.

Is it as smooth as my Spyderco? No. Is it as ergonomic as my Spyderco? No, but not by much. Does it have the latest, greatest steel? Nope. But then again I could buy more than two of these for the price of my Endura too.

So, while it may not be the equal in all regards to my Spyderco, the Buck 721 definitely has some things going for it. The steel is good enough. It is ergonomic enough. It is big enough. The 721 is also a great value in a USA made knife.

So in my opinion, it's a winner. What we have here is a USA made knife that is more than enough knife to get the job done. It's cheaper than some knives from the place which shall not be named, and inexpensive enough that you can use it hard and not feel bad about it. And if it breaks you have Buck's awesome warranty.

Since I have the 721 in all three colors, as usual, I'll step in and save his bacon. (the things we do for faux relatives). This is the one they made for Wally World. The 722 Buck made for themselves comes in the same three colors but has a different shape handle and a swedge on the blade.

Oh yeah, I have seen that one before! Never handled one though. I seem to recall seeing one on clearance at WalMart for 19.99 a month ago...I handled the blister pack, and gave it some consideration, but didn't pull the trigger. Now I am thinking I should have...

Maybe you should check the next time you pass a Walmart to see if they have any left. In my opinion, it's a hell of a knife for $19.99

I doubt it... there was only one by itself amongst a slew of Gerbers and SAK's...

I've used mine all week at work and she has fared very well,I'm still on the factory edge 420hc is good steel with great lock-up and with my mitts a solid grip with jimping in all the right places The clip works well and I like the grind.I believe she's comprable to my Delica4 but I would have had to put the stone to the vg-10..I know she'll be a good one she bit me the first day

I love those Bucks! Great looking knives. These 721's IMO, are every bit the knife as some of those big name tacticals.

But I have sad news . Mowing the other day mind slipped out of my overalls pocket. I still haven't found that green knife in my yard. I'm still looking though. It's one heck of a knife.

I tell ya. I don't think I've ever lost a traditional slip joint out of my pocket. When I get another I'm gonna pack it like a traditional whilst I mow!

Did you have it clipped in your pocket? If you're going to replace it, start keeping an eye out for a bargain now because it seems to me like folks are starting to discover them. Don't forget the 722. Same knife except for the shape of the handle and a rather attractive swedge on the blade. There are several of the 722s listed on eBay for around $30 with free shipping.


Edit: Look for that knife in the most unlikely place. I've learned that when stuff goes missing, it always gravitates to places you would never think of including in your search. Same for when you drop something. Always start your search far away from the drop zone and under or behind the most inaccessible location.

I just found my fingernail clippers that have been missing so long, I had bought a replacement, twice. They were under a shoe I only wear in the winter when I run the snow blower. How in the heck did they crawl under that shoe?

Yep. I even went over the area where I thought I remembered noticing it last, and the surrounding area with a metal detector. No luck. It'll turn up, like you said, when I'm not expecting it I'm sure.

I never knew Buck had another knife along the Spitfire line. Thanks for the info missed this one somehow?? But I think I'm going have to buy one two and add them to my collection of Buck. One for the collection and another to carry as the Spitfire is one of my all time favorite Buck EDCs now.

In addition to the 721 Slimline (Walmart) and 722 Spitfire, for those who like a smaller knife, they also made/make a (3¾" closed) 726 Mini-Spitfire in all three colors.

Thanks again for the info about Walmart having these Buck Slimlines . I went online and bought one the same day. Great US made knife for a price that's hard to beat. Got it honed and stropped and it now part of the EDC collection I use daily.
