All About Pocket Knives

When I visited the Great Eastern Cutlery Company I took some photos. They are shown on an old thread if anyone is interested in viewing them again. In those photos you will see a pic of some "blanks" unfinished blades. Well somehow, someone must have gotten a hold of some of these and decided that it could be sold as a knife pic. I guess you could use it as one, but this is what blank looks like and not a pic. So it isn't a lie, it is just a strech of the imagination I guess.

Needless to say, I thought it interesting and others might enjoy it

Tell him you have a copyright on the photos and you are expecting payment within 3 days of the auction.

I contacted the guy and he assured me that it was a genuine knife pick!! ...and not a blade blank.

Maybe the GEC man will chime in and let us know the truth. Did they make knife picks and is this one. At this point, I still say that it is a blank. but what do I know, I am from Pennsylvania.

I'm with you bud...Being a GEC distributor, I would've been told if they were making knife picks. Also, I've seen many knife picks but never one like that. It is kind of neat though, however, I certainly wouldn't pay 10.00 plus shipping.

At least he doesn't have it listed as an "Original"...or as a Confederate knife pick from the Civil War.

oh bill, you figured it out! i wrote the guy and he said he got them straight from the factory last week. why would great eastern sell blade blanks? seconds? looks like a problem in the future to me.

I'm always interested in any knife pic. There's a lot of reproduction pics out there. Probably 95% of the so called vintage knife pics you see on ebay are reproductions. I don't think I've ever seen a real vintage Remington or Winchester pic on ebay and I look a every single one I see listed. The original Remington pics are stamped on both sides and they were almost to a glaze finish. Where the repo's are stamped on one side and roughly finished. Winchester repo pics have a line on each side of the words "---TRADE MARK---" where the original pic did not have the line. Plus the taper on the end of the pic points to the right on the repo, where the original pic has the taper to the left. Remington also made some with celluloid and bone handles. These are extremely rare. Hope this saves some of you being fooled by the crooks out there.

good advice knife-nut. this "pick" is 3 5/8". hummmm...... same as their blade. oh, it is a blade! it could be finished and installed in a frame down the line, violla, a "rare" ge "prototype"

i have several repro picks but no true old ones.

Well I have decided that it is a knife blank, period. Call it what you want. I saw them in person and Perry is right on with his comments to. OK to use them as such, but to sell them as original pics HUMMMMM!!!! a strech it my mind. BUT then again, I am from Pennsylvania.

What I would like to know is this the 2007 pick or the super ultra rare 2006 model ? Its nice to know these things ya know. LOL

Boy, do I feel stupid Within 15 minutes of the post I made here yesterday, I was driving to happy hour about to indulge in a few CC's and water. Ken Daniels called me from GEC and said "they're made out of brass and how many do you want"? Anyhow, they are knife picks and I'll have a box of them in the next few days. Not sure about the cost but they will be much less than 9.99. Sorry for the confusion but, I didn't know they had made them

Made a call to GEC this morning. It is there version of a knife pic or opener. It is made from polished brass & is stamped Great Eastern. The tang hole is drilled so it can be put on a keychain or chain for the neck(for the Ladies).

Well, I stand corrected on it being a knife pick...

However, it looks too large and unwieldy for my tastes, and I would prefer that the tip of my knife pick occupy much more of any nail nick, to keep it from sliding around, than this one will.

Well now, given the great information that you all have gathered I humbly beg forgiveness. I WAS WRONG!!!!! It sure looked like a blank to me. I guess I didn't READ THE PIC I do apologize as this shows that we all can learn something. don't assume you are always right either. I will now hang my head in shame and wonder off to an ice berg and sit to review life as I know it. I may stop off at Titusville and pick up one of those pics first though. I may need it to open my knife with on that ice berg. GREAT LESSON LEARNED.
