All About Pocket Knives

I was looking in one of the forums that was talking about rare knife markings. The name Enderes came up and they asked if anyone had pictures of Enderes knives. These are ones I have picked up over the years. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

We see them off and on up here in Minnesota, espically in Southern Mn. because they were across the border in Iowa and many of their knives were made by Camillus. Dave

Alberta Lea, Minn was where they manufactured tools and cutlery from 1916-1926.Goins says these are marked Ederes in a square. I would have swore Utica made this knife Mr. Goins??

After selling the business he reopened in Iowa (where he started in 1908-1916,before moving to Alberta Lea)and made tools under the mark of Original Enderes.1927-1940. Goins says the cutlery marked Guttenburg Iowa were made by other firms.

Not to be confused with the "ENDERS" or "Wm. ENDERS" branding used as a second line behind KEEN KUTTER by E. C. Simmons hardware.

Based on the illustrations of the knives, I believe that most of these were made by Imperial 1920's to 30'3 era, and some made by Utica same era.

Thanks Steve for sharing. Goins said they had I think 3 manufacturing facilities when they sold out to E.J.Phil in Minn. and moved to Guttenbert,Iowa. After which the knives they sold were outsourced,and marked"Original Enderes" ?? .

But, see if you can tell which of these is the Ederes and which are Utica made or stamped. You can see it,but also see the remarkable resemblance to the others.

You can see why I believe Utica made my Enderes,no disrespect to Mr. and Mrs. Goins.

Goins could only research things to the point that records were available.

Most if not all companies that had contract knives made used a number of manufacturers. I suspect that the contracts changed year to year, month to month, etc. Based on price, availability, etc. Clauss for example used at least four or five manufacturers. Ditto for Belknap Hardware.

It looks as if Enderes hd some high quality knives contracted early on (like your farmer's jack) and then maybe during the depression they switched to lower cost knives.

Thanks Steve,as I said no disrespect,we owe a lot to these people. Like Dewey and Lavona Ferguson,but like you said their resources were limited.I'm thankful to them all for their efforts.

AHHH, Great an "ENDERES" Expert.....

Take a look at this one and give me your thoughts. I got it some time back, bought it as a Boker, but some have suggested it could be ENDERES....Hard for me to tell. Good knife though whatever it is.

I'm no expert,by far,many more knowledgeable knife people around here than me. I know a little from collecting these farmers jack.

Your knife sure has what looks to be the remainder of an Enderes stamp.

I just got done doing some oiling and rubbing on this old rust bucket I took a chance on for short dollars. I might put some edges on and carry. Does anyone know who might have made this one? Seems German made with the steel pin on NS bolsters. Seems early.

An old cleaver with what looks to be a ENDERES stamp.

Fish knife with the Minnesota tang stamp.(1917-1926).Also catalog prints of knifes from 1926 catalog.

I’ve seen that name recently (well, 80s and 90s) on various hand tools. Screwdrivers, chisels, utility knives, etc.
