All About Pocket Knives

While searching my photo files for something relative to another AAPK topic, I came across these three photos.

I do not recall downloading these and I don't think I've ever posted them on AAPK before, although these days that's not beyond a possibility.

I'm sure this was from an Ebay auction.

I'm also sure I downloaded the photos because the knife looks so much like a Robeson product and, indeed, like their old electricians pattern.

This knife has no markings at all. No tang stamp. No pattern number.

I wonder why that is?

And, the time period from which this knife appears to have come, if it is a Robeson product, was the time when Robeson was marking both blades.

I hear about "lunch box" knives all the time. I suppose that's a possibility, but with an unstamped blade?

Do these look like unfinished blades to you guys more familiar with the manufacturing process, that is, blades that have not completed all the blade making steps?

That's interesting. An old teardrop jack with the secondary blade re-profiled into a screwdriver blade. (Or maybe that screwdriver blade is the original secondary blade???) Neat.

Jerry, let me show you a Robeson electricians pattern.

Also note the wire stripping notches on the master blades.

Three sure is a lot of similarity between the two knives.

Is it possible that Robeson made some up without tang stamps to sell on a private order or government contract ?

I think the blades look "raw", for lack of a better description. Unfinished. Never polished. Maybe never tempered or taken off the line and put into the frame just after tempering.

Something weird like that.

Plus, it was never drilled for that really big bail they put on their electrician knives back then.

Great looking old knife. Don't know who made it, but don't see many electricians/TL-29s with bone scales.

Yes, unfinished. Look at how deep the nail pulls are and the rough scratches in the blades. Probably not heat treated either.

Glad you were pleased with it, Phil. Wouldn't want to see you branching out, only to be disappointed.

Dimitri, I do not know what it sold for. Sometimes when I save an auction photo, I go back after the sale and add the selling price to the pic. I did not do that with that one.

Hi Charlie and all,
I have been busy in the shop getting stuff ready for the OKCA show next month so I have not been online as much as usual & missed this thread.

The OP knife is one I bought last year at the OKCA show.
You are right the blade is in a rough state not finished.
There is a thread on this knife somewhere here, but I am in a time crunch this morning and don't have time to look for it.
