At one of the first knife shows I went to in the early, mid 80s was the ECCKS where I bought my first 2 custom knives from Bud Nealy and Pat Crawford. I met and made friends with many of the makers and shakers in the industry and new medium just coming into it's own, the internet and knife forums.

While there I had promised to pick up a ceramic v stick sharpener for her kitchen knives so on the way out I saw someone selling a different V stick sharpener than I had seen before, it was made with triangular sticks that sharpened knives like a flat bench hone or as a ceramic rod on the corners. It even did serrations. I bought the sharpener, it was called a Sharpmaker and it had a tick embossed on the plastic base.

While I was at the table there was an older gentleman selling an odd looking, dare I say an UGHly knife. It had a hump on the back with a hole in it and a hole in the middle of the hump ::facepalm:: and it had a clip to clip it to your pocket. WTF?

Well I bought the knife, IIRC the gentleman's name was Sam Gleason... No it was Sal, Sal Gleason. No Sal Glesser. I carried that knife I bought for 20 years before I retired it. He said it was model CO1 the first in the series and he called it the Worker. I wonder what happened to the man and his funny little knife with the tick on it? Oops I mean SPYDER not Spider The company was called Spyderco, I wonder if he ever made another knife? (Just Kiddin' Sal, you know I love you and have nothin' but respect for you my friend, talk to you in the other place)

Here's mine mine from back in the day, over 30 years old and no worse for wear, just a little more wear. ;) It's been retired for 10 years now, my wife had it engraved for me and I still take it out and clip it to my RFP for some pocket time. :)

Here's NY inventory pic from last year.
