All About Pocket Knives

Out of my element here guys. Just wondering if there's much collector interest for this type of knife set. I've had it a while and really know next to nothing about it.

I have waited my customary length of time for someone with more knowledge than me to comment. But, here goes my 'lesser' opinion.

DU knives, especially NIB ones, have a value that follows seasons and situations. Like Scout knives they will always have some collector value, its just how many were made and offered during the DU dinner experience that year. Are all the knives date codes the same ?, are they serial numbered and if so are they the same ?

This set being a nice triad of Buck knives should hold or exceed the value you paid for it in time. (if you didn't get caught up in a DU dinner bidding war). If you want to use it and carry the knives, know you are carrying unique knives with a little more value than the standard versions. And you will reduce the 'set' value. I once cleaned and sharpened set of tarnished and even rusting DU Schrade knives and later regretted my actions knowing I had ruined someones NIB status.

You will need someone that collects DU knives, and there are several, to give you a dollar value.

I had my head in the sand.

I would close those knives and not store them open. The single blade 500 series is still made today. The Stockman 700 model has been out of production for a good number of years. If the date code is one from 85 to 90 they could be 425M steel, after date code X 1990 they are more likely 420hc, both heat treated the BOS method. One negative is some of those 700s had a tendency for the backspring to break, which is why they need to be stored closed.
The 102 sheath knife is still made and is well reguarded to this day as a nice small belt knife. Many whitetails have gone to the freezer by their use. All of them likely Rosewood scaled.

Phil, that is a nice set of Buck Knives. Sorry to disappoint Dogg, but I don't know the value of the set or the year of issue by DU, however, there exists an avid group of DU collectors. The way to meet one of them is to attend an area DU banquet and find out who buys the DU knives every year - then see if you can peddle them to him (or her). The three knives in the case are all good knives that are popular in their own right. OH

Interest? Absolutely.....I bet there'd be a bidding frenzy on it on ebay......
