All About Pocket Knives

I picked up this Bulldog Calf Roper the other day and really appreciate the lock back mechanism on this knife. The lever attaches to the backspring and lies flat when knife is closed. When the blade is open lever moves to right angles to backspring and must be pushed hard forward in order to close the blade.

My question is does anyone know what knife or model this was copied after..???

cool knife ralph! the locking mech. is similar to the lock on a lot of rigger knives for the marlin spike.

I have that same knife, its a big solid piece. The basic design combines the handles from the large trapper pattern with a locking single spey blade. I think it was Utica that made something similiar called the Nessmuk, way back when.

That is a cool knife. It is a Bulldog BKC 149-B and I think it is a second generation Bulldog with First Generation green bone scales.

There is a first Generation lockback same design BKC 149 that had a Bull Brand etch with stag handles that was released in 1981 with 188 knives.

Tony Foster's book compiled in August of 1990 makes no mention of BKC 149-A or BKC 149-B which makes me think that the A and B are Second Generation. Both the A and B were made with a quantity of 100 pieces.

The Bulldog Calf Roper first came out as a different lockback knife in 1993 when Jim Parker bought Bulldog. There is no documentation that I know of for BKC 149-A or B, both Calf Roper etches as being First Generation knives. I am relying on Tony Fosters work for this. I wonder if there is anything like this in Weidmannsheil knives?

OK, heres the scoop on these big sodbusters according to Jim Parker-
They are 2nd generation knives made in 1993 after Parkers acquired the Bulldog line. #149A had stag handles and Calf Roper etch, 100 made, and 149B had green bone handles and Calf Roper etch, 100 made.

That is super information guys, just what I was looking for, thanks. I love the design and style. I felt it had to be designed on some vintage engineering but was not quite sure. I now have to add the other two lockbacks to my want list.
