Does anyone here collect old bone handled folding two blade dog grooming knives?

I have a total of 1 also. Mine is marked "SPRATS" who I believe was a dog food maker who commissioned the making of those knives. The other end says "OIL THE JOINTS" and it was made in England. That's just from memory. Now that you've brought them up, I'll dig mine out and snap a few pictures of it. Stay tuned.

I don't have any old ones but do have a couple of new ones:A Parker 3 blade and an unmarked 5 blade.

I don't collect them, but I want one. These days, a grooming knife by Remington or Sprats is one of the few knives I'd trade for (or buy if I had the funds handy) despite not having an immediate need for one.

Back when I was a kid, I had a little mixed terrier (maybe half Cairn terrier and half of the local "rat terrier" mix). He was a blast, a great companion for a kid who liked to go off wandering through the hills and down by the river. When his coat got full of wild oat seeds one time, Mr. Benson (a neighbor) used his grooming knife to clean up the coat and teach me how to groom the dog, and trim his nails with the file. I've wanted a knife like that ever since. I figure I'll probably run across one about the time I run across another good little mixed terrier.

I like that bone jigging,I think it's typical of 50s or 60s Sheffield. Someone can confirm or reject this,but I know it was used in Sheffield,just not sure about the dates.

If I can get my hands on them I collect them. Picked this one up a while back and according to Steve Pfeiffer (knifeaholic) it's a Case.

Excuse the cell phone pictures, but here's the Spratt's I mentioned earlier (I misspelled Spratt's in that post too). It's amazing how sharp the burr cutting blade is on this one especially since I wouldn't have any idea on how to sharpen the thing. Great walk and talk too.

Hi there I consider myself lucky to be the owner of two of these lovely knives.the one like yours isn't in as good as condition as the one your showing but the other one I have is getting very close to yours but it has two blades and no comb.think there must be two versions of this knife.I personally think the one with the comb is older than the other ?

Very nice indeed! I wasn't aware of the other model. I'm sure it does a great job of cutting burrs out, because these knives do their jobs amazingly well. Nice score!

I had a Wm. Rodgers stockman that had that type jigging. Not Jos. Rodgers, but Wm Rodgers, usually identified as a silversmith.

Not sure if this would qualify as a dog grooming knife; probably more for a horse. Aluminum handles;hook that looks like it is for removing stones from a horse's hoof and a grooming blade. No maker's stamp.

Not really old, but it's all I've got. Cashel Horseman's knife (made in China)--got it ca. Christmas '06 or '07, instead of the Victorinox Equestrian I wanted back when I was actively riding English. These were found in Tractor Supply stores in the horse tack area for around $10, as opposed to the nearly $40 price from SMKW at the time for the Victorinox. The knife is very cheaply made. The clip point blade is nearly inaccessible--I mostly used the bot knife blade as it was easier to get to. Didn't even carry it that much, as at the time, I think I only had a handful of knives (I started collecting summer '06 at age 9), all I carried was my grandfather's 34OT and a folding hoofpick. All the other stuff I needed was kept in a cabinet in my own barn, and in the tack room at the stables.

Clip point blade

Bot Knife

Grooming blade

Punch *(useless due to looking more like an unsharpened sheepsfoot blade)

Hoof pick (recall using it just a couple times--used my old green Epona hoofpick all the time (kept it or a cheap folding hoofpick on me at all times).

A few points to note though Cody. You started young and have kept up with it. It may have been cheaply made, but it was the best you could do at the time. Carrying your Grandfather's knife is ALWAYS something special and a handful of knives at that age is pretty darned good IMHO. Thanks for sharing!

Quite the collection you have there Outkast! I'm pretty proud just owning one of these old beauties, but you've gathered quite a herd of them. Nice collecting of a great old pattern!
