big forged knife

Got a customer who wanted a large mountain man style bowie and this is what I came up with. I forged the blade out of a piece of 3/8" thick 1080 high carbon steel. It finished up about 15" long and 1 3/4" wide and has English walnut for a simple handle. Totally worthless as a "using " knife but that's what he wanted .
As the old saying goes, the customer is always right! Just thought I would show it off. thanks for looking, Terry

He could use it to butcher hogs (or elephants). That's a nice looking piece of cutlery. Good job.

Terry - nice work. That is a good looking knife, but I know what you mean about it being useless. Just a little short for chopping and a little long for slicing. It does look about the same size as some knives I have seen that were used to harvest sugar cane. And I once ran into an old forester who was marking pine trees for cutting - he used a short heavy machete about that size to groove the bark.
