I've had this set of knives since they first came out. They have been in their wooden presentation box from the beginning. I took them out last night to RenWax and lube them. One unusual thing I noticed is the blades are mirror polished on the front and satin ground on the back. Do you know if that was meant to be or was it overlooked?

That was typical of the old Schrade Cut Co knives.
In the days of hand grinding and polishing it was a cost saving measure.
The front polished side Schrade called "crocus polished", (see Catalog E and Supplements, reprinted by A. G. Russell).
The pile side of the blades had what called a "glaze" finish, if memory serves.

Schrade Cut Co, Schrade Walden and Imperial Schrade are the roots of Canal Street Cutlery. It was started by some folks from Imperial Schrade; Wally Gardner, Dave Swinden and others from Schrade.
I appreciate their faithfulness to their historical roots and their production of knives that reflect that heritage.
