I don't see any difference between a 42 and a 72, other than 3/8" difference in closed length. Why not a 72 since they did come with a Wharncliffe blade.

Hmmm...I don't know much about GEC since I've only just started collecting them. I was inquiring for a friend. Thanks for the information...I'll pass it along.

Yup...as usual. the experts are right again. My friend made a mistake about the patterns available vs. the knife in his imagination. He's actually looking for something along the lines of a GEC #72 with wharncliffe blade, a lanyard hole and slim profile wood handle scales. He might consider commissioning a modification of a #42 Missouri Trader with a wharncliffe blade, etc., if he can find someone in his geographical location (Seattle, WA) who does quality work. Does anyone know someone who does that kind of work in or around that area that they could confidently recommend?
