All About Pocket Knives

I've been looking through my reference books, paying attention to patterns that seem to have disappeared and one particular pattern has caught my eye; the jumbo sleeveboard, in a jack or whittler blade configuration. B.L. tags them as sleeveboard jumbo & double-end jacks. I wonder why this pattern has lost out? Do other collectors not like someting about it?

I've seen jumbo sleeveboards range in size from a 3 1/2" Keen Kutter Shapleigh and L.F.&C. Universal to a 4 1/4" Winchester but most are in the 3 5/8" range, which I think is the perfect pocket friendly size.

I think the Remingtons are some of the best looking examples but I haven't come across any that didn't grab my attention.

Show them if you have them, the older the better.

I could not find a definition of jumbo sleeveboard. A Google search led me right back to this discussion and to several unhelpful places. I know what a sleeveboard is. I am thinking jumbo sleeveboard refers to the very wide blade? It appears to be just a step down from a sunfish pattern: the same blade in a bit wider body would be a sunfish? Or am I missing something.

I've got a pretty new Bulldog Wildcat Driller and a few Case -70 pattern Snowshoes but they don't hold a candle to the jumbo sleeveboards you guys have. Thanks for posting!

I agree. I gladly give the nod to all the beautiful knives posted after my shiney upstart.

FRJ, nothing wrong with that S&M plus it's the biggest jumbo yet posted. I really like the Remington and Boker with the swedge and long pull too.

Thank. Charles yours are very nice, as are the Bokers (I think I liked the ebony scaled one the best) and it's great to see the Schatt & Morgan keeping the pattern alive.

I just noticed the pull on your Remington is actually an elongated nail knick, similar to thegreedygulo's Radium, and not a traditional long pull. Had to do a double-take. I like it and will have to see if it's been used on other knives/blades. Thanks again for posting, gorgeous knife!

I think I just picked up my first jumbo sleeveboard whittler, Keen Kutter. This is the only picture the auction house posted. Can't wait to get this little beauty in hand.

Here's the Keen Kutter jumbo sleeveboard whittler along with some newer jumbo sleeveboards I've found. The KK is 3 1/2" while the Case's are 4 1/4" and the Bulldog is a whopping 4 1/2". I love this pattern.

This Robeson made TERRIER from 1910 - 1916, sold on Ebay a few months back. I tried to get it, but couldn't outbid whoever did.
