Heres my only Grizzly, but a rare one

Been waiting to see that one , is it etched ?

No etch I can see. Stamped Pat> on reverse tang and "Henry Sears ans Sons" with "1865" under name. Pitting on the blade wouldn't allow me to see any etch.

Did kabar contract that model out? I have never seen a kabar stamped as a henry sears.

can you post a closeup of the tang stamp , I`d like a look

Mark Erickson and Neil Punchard have both seen the knife and said they didn't know Ka-Bar made any for H.Sears but said it was all right. Apparently nobody knew this was out there and Ka-Bar must have made a small run for them. Knife isn't in good enough shape to be counterfit. Mark sent me the scales that are on it and I had Larry Hayes from Mpls. Mn. repair it. When I bought it (For $22) it had green wood scales glued on it and it didn't open automatically. It works great now. Dave

Sorry my picture isn't clearer and it took me so long to notice your message. Mark Erickson had the knife for several weeks to research it and is pretty sure it is correct. He said it will probably be in his next book. Dave

Thanks , that`s cool as heck ! that stag could/would look period correct with a little color/age to it

It kind of bothered me that the stag didn't look period, but with the question of the knife being authentic and all the repairs and tough life it has had, I thought it may be better for the stag to look like it is a obvious new addition. Antiquing the stag may fool some people into thinking the knife is a pile of re-made parts or worse yet, all origional. It is what it is, and I'm comfortable with that. Dave

Found and old picture of what it looked like when I bought it. Shows why I was pretty sure it was not counterfit. Nobody would make a knife this ugly on purpose.

I can age the scales if you want.
