All About Pocket Knives

I like to swap knives. I'm interested in Wharncliffe blade folders: pretty much any brand and any pattern, preferably USA made, single blade models (also whittlers or half-whittlers) with the following handle materials: Stag, Abalone, MOP, Smooth White Bone, Ivory.

I have A LOT of knives, newer models (1980-Present), Mostly Case XX...tell me what you're looking for and maybe we can make each other happy. Even if I don't have the exact knife you want in my vast collection, or vice-versa, I am not opposed to trading for cash--I'm not a profiteer, just love playing "the game!"

So dig out those wharny's that are gathering dust in your collection and let's do some swappin'

I've got one Case Knife with a Wharncliffe main blade - this one. It is a new knife from 2006 (CV Steel - jigged red bone handles). I don't care for the design. I am looking for another Case 6318 Stockman, same condition as mine. I like dark jigged bone handles (I don't care for all the Case "Easter Egg" colors) - black, brown, chestnut, dark red, dark blue, dark green, olive green - will all work for me. Jigging can be Pocket-worn or regular - both styles are fine. I like SS or CV - doesn't matter which type steel. Age doesn't matter - 1980's, 1990's, 2000's, etc. I do have a preference on shields - I love the block style of the late 1990's (see picture below) or the classic shield of the 1980's and early 1990's. Do you want to trade? OH
Ps By the way, I do like to have positive blade snap as well.

Thanks for the reply. As incredible as it may seem, out of all the Case knives I have...none of them fit your specific preference criteria because I don't have any stockmans (stockmen?). Like you, I'm not a big fan of the bright colors; the ones I do have I collected more for the pattern or rarity than for the color, and the bright "Easter Egg" colors, as you call them, are mainly the ones I'm now trying to sell or trade. I do like the Copperhead pattern, however...as you can see...here is a small sample of my Wharncliffe Copperhead collection (these are the ones I'm keeping, by the way).

That's exactly what I though when I first looked at it, but then I realized that the blades on the Mini Copperhead are on opposite ends, not side-by-side as in this pic.

By grannies, you are right. I never noticed that. I've been looking for an affordable (as far under $50 as possible ) Case Wharncliffe Copperhead for quite some time and in my search string I've filtered out the mini's.

Do you have any other wharncliffe folders (different brands and/or patterns) in your collection that you'd consider trading for this mint 2000 Peacock Appaloosa Wharncliffe Copperhead?

I would straight up offer to sell it to you for my cost; but, since you said your top limit is $50, perhaps a trade might be more of a possibility. I also have a bunch of Case XX Wharncliffe Mini Copperheads if you are considering something a bit smaller but more budget friendly.

Chew it over...you know where to find me if anything turns up.

I know they're out there, but not too surprised no one wants to part with them. Is it just me, or does it seem that there's just not a whole lot of wharncliffe folders actually being made by the major manufacturers? GEC seems to be leading the pack for numbers of different patterns with wharncliffe blades.

Case currently makes their medium Trapper (6207) with a Wharncliffe blade - this one I gifted to my niece when she graduated from HS this past June. Judging from the thank you note she sent us, she was very pleased with it. OH

This Bear & Son is probably more a "sheepcliffe" blade. Something I made up because it's too abrupt to be a Wharncliffe but too much slope to be a "sheepfoot". The handles are staged bone. Picked up this Bulldog Whittler in second-cut stag at my local brick & mortar store. This Case Mini-Copperhead 62109W SS was a gift from Big Monk (Thanks Monkey Man) Case 6049EZ SS single blade in Antique Bone. (more of a lambcliffe blade) This Case Seahorse Whittler 5355 WH DAM - 2008 Stag Damascus was a Christmas present from my daughter and (then) husband in 2011. Case 2008 Tony Bose Swayback Jack TB62117 I picked up at the Badger Knife Show in Janesville, Wisconsin. Bought it from Keith (Ozzie Marie). And then there are the Great Easterns but that's for another time.

Those are some real sweet knives you have, Jerry, I especially like that Stag Damascus Seahorse.
Anytime you're ready to show them, I'm ready to drool over your GEC wharncliffes (I have plenty of drool, so don't hold anything back )
And, speaking of Swaybacks...here's a nice pair (Gent & Jack) dressed up in their finest stag (Prime & Red)

If you have a Case stag Sowbelly or a stag Case 5347 Stockman, we may be able to work out a trade for my Case Trapper.

Oh man...I would love to trade you for your trapper; it's a beauty, for sure. However, there are two problems: 1) I don't have either of the patterns you are looking for, and 2) Even if I did...it's pretty unlikely that I would ever trade stag for bone. Thanks for offering though. Would you consider accepting anything else other than stag sowbelly or stockman in trade for this trapper?

Oh, for Pete's sake. How could I possibly have forgotten the #48 Improved Trapper? (I really gotta retake those pictures.) And this little Soileau custom. Edit: And I believe (tell me what you think) the Kershaw Leek qualifies for this thread.

Those are the only two that I'm looking for at present.

I understand. Let me know if there's ever another knife you are looking for that you would trade this trapper for...I might just have it...you never know. But, at least you always know how to contact me.

Thanks but I collect only Case Trappers, all patterns of the Stockman, and anything in stag. I only have one Copperhead and it's a 5 blade that I'd like to trade or sell.

By "Trappers" I'm assuming you mean the large/full size (pattern 54), right? Or do you also collect the medium, mini, tiny and slimline trappers as well?

Anything in stag, you say? How about a mini muskrat?
