All About Pocket Knives

I am looking for a person to try and build 2 knives from old Sheffield parts that I have. I want to give one as the monthly give-a-way and keep one. If anyone is interested let me know and I will send a scan of the parts to see if you think you can put them together. I have already had one repairman tell me he could not so am looking for another. They are lockbacks and the pivot hole is not drilled in the blades. I emailed the man I bought them from and he sent me some pointers on how the knives can be assembled. Can't believe no one wants to try working on these knives!!!!! Guess I need to go to a custom knife maker and see if they would do it.

Well Mike, the main problem with the equation is that these are rough cut blanks, there is no template to work off of, so the person would not know where the pivot, and rocker holes need to be or what the final product should even look like. The tempering and handle installation is the easy part, working out the bugs in the action and hole placements would be the real challenge. Good luck.

Most custom knifemakers would not EVEN BEGIN to think about working on such a project, too many pitfalls. Besides, they are looking to make a knife from scratch, their own work, not someone elses headache. I would not touch such a project. See MM's post. It would not be cheap either. Most that would offer a bid will high ball it, big time, just because they are not interested in a "basket case" project.

Good luck, you may find someone but it would be $$$$, unless you get very lucky.
