All About Pocket Knives

The hone is dated 1827, ( date scratched on the bottom ). It looks like natural stone and the worn side is smooth as glass.
The knife is dated 1840. I know nothing of the knife other than that my great grand-father used it in his medical profession. It looks like whole bone with metal passing through the entire length of the marrow cavity. The edge is on the slanted side.
The knife and hone were kept together in a fountain pen box.

I bought the PAL 36 Navy knife new 1964/65. The sheath is lost.

Man Edgewise you just keep on pulling these very interesting knifes out and I am really appreciating every minute of it.. That older fixed blade is really interesting to me...

That is great that you have a knife that belonged to your Great Grandfather.

My most treasured knives are ones that come from my Dad, Grandfathers & a razor that belonged to a Great Grandfather whom I never met. One of my favorites is a knife my Grandfather made.

To me, these knives give me a link to my past. I hope that your Great Grandfather's knife does the same for you.

Nice knives Here is my PAL RH-36. Don't know if the sheath is original, but this is the way I got it about 25 years ago.

Useem, your sheath is identical to the one my knife came with, and that was original.
You've got one tough knife there. Mine took 45 years of extreme abuse, including being used as a cold chisel with hammering on the pommel.
I think it resents being a collector's item all of a sudden , and of course it has never forgiven me for losing its sheath.
