hey Guys,I'm not really a Razor collector but I have a few.
Just picked up a Battle Axe cutlery,Phila...will get a Pic in a little while.

I have a Battle Axe Cutlery blade also, but it is waiting for some scales. You don't see them very often. Mine has a really cool stamp of a battle axe on the back, some of the others I have seen don't have this.

that's in nice condition,hope you find some Handles for it.

Yours has been modded. Most likely due to a cracked blade. It'll still shave, just takes a bit longer.

I'm not totally sure...it appears to have been Fixed but...looking closely there isn't a grind mark
on it anywhere. ..who ever repaired it had a still hand.

That type of fix is pretty common with hollow ground razors. Your blade should be the same shape as the one pictured below it.

Full hollow grinds are so thin and the steel is so hard that they are very easy to crack. Once cracked, they aren't much good as a razor because they will bite the heck out of you.

You'll see razors that have been shortened from the other end as well. Generally when one gets cracked toward the toe, they would just cut it off at the crack and wither square the tip or round it as they desired.

I suspect that what happened with your razor was that it cracked and the cracked section was removed thus making the razor serviceable again. There were a lot of very capable razor grinders that traveled around regrinding and repairing broken or old razors. I've seen razors that were made in the early part of the 19th Century before any technology existed to produce a full hollow grind yet those old razors will have a full hollow grind. What happened was the old razor got worn to the point of being a PITA to hone so it was reground with a modern grind. I figure that was done because it was cheaper to have your beater freshened up than it was to buy a new one or possibly it had sentimental value. Either way, the razor was reworked. I have a few regrinds and they are great shavers.

About the only razors you see that were made with a cutting edge that length would be the Japanese kamisori style razors. Those are a totally different animal from the western style grind like what you normally think of as a straight razor.

The Blade is like you say very thin so if it were dropped one time it would break.
Bought it only because of the name and didn't pay much for it
