All About Pocket Knives

I do not no nothing about Kershaw knives...daughter asked me to pick out
a USA made knife for her to carry while she trains for a marathon...
I saw a Kershaw Whirlwind 1560 on ebay, they ran around 40-50 bucks...
says country of origin USA, are they made here, steel, assembled, etc. and does
any of you Kershaw buffs have a opinion on this model ???
saw some with a factory blemish for 35 bucks, seemed like a good deal

There are a boat load of the "tactical style" knives and for the money, it's my opinion that Kershaw makes the best. Further, there are a boat load of Kershaw models made both in the USA and China. I think you're spot on to insist on a USA made knife.

The Kershaw USA knives are made about 35-40 miles up the road from me in Tualatin Oregon.
I have been in the factory a couple times; it is so clean you could eat off the floor!
It is a premier manufacturing facility and they only make high quality knives, even the inexpensive ones.

My daughter edcs a Scallion.. On duty though, her carry is a Spyderco Delica..

Is there a list of USA made Kershaw knives somewhere?? John

John -- I would be interested to know what is about the Delica that makes her prefer it over the Scallion or say a Leek or one of the other Kershaw Speedsafe® models.

gonna look around the net for the best price and model with the speed assist..
she is having trouble's with dogs, a few creepy looking types she has ran across,
told what the heck are you doin without at least a blade with ya !!!
She is training for a marathon this fall and running 15 mi at a clip, some early
am before her husband goes to work...Kershaw USA looks like the one without
goin crazy in the pocketbook, 30-45 bucks buys a good un, looks like

Going back to your original post on this thread, I did a little searching for the Kershaw Wirlwind and found that it is available with either a plain edge or a partially serrated edge, in either coated (black) or uncoated blade finish. They are also available in at least three different blade steels.

I have the similar, Blackout model and have found it to be a very well made knife. I've not carried it so I can't attest to it's durability, but I do know Kershaw makes excellent knives. Both the Whirlwind and the Blackout have speed assisted opening and are liner locks.

Have you considered getting your daughter some pepper spray to go along with the knife you're going to get her ?

Buy her one of these beauties. The rainbow leek isn't just a looker. It has the flipper for easy, speedy opening. The leek also features a safety for locking the blade closed. The safety is perfect for anyone nervous about the knife opening by accident. PS, you better get her a Kershae if she asked for a Kershae!
