All About Pocket Knives

Here is a family heirloom for a customer, a 3-7/8" Camillus stockman.
It belonged to his grandfather. The handles were missing and both the blades and the springs were pitted and badly rusted.

It was a lot of work to clean up, but I think it came out looking nice without removing all the character and memories of its past.
I couldn’t polish the blades because of the pitting and there was some rust to deal with, but I think the pitting and signs of use lends it a little character until it develops new patina.

I didn’t get any before pics, but here are the pics he sent when inquiring about the repair.

Dale (orvet) does just about anything that needs done. Here's an example of his work, one of the top favorite knives in my pile. It's a modified Electrician's knife. I love it.

Man O man Dale. That's some kind of nice. I love it when in a restoration some of the past character is kept. It just looks right.

I do work with about any handle material except plastic (who wants that) and shells, (MOP, abalone, etc), as the dust is toxic and my dogs are always in the shop with me when I am working, (I can’t find 3 Lhasa Apso respirators). I also have not worked with G10 for the same reason.

I do a lot with bone, stag and exotic hard woods. I also have a lot of bone and exotic hardwoods in inventory. I have Camel bone, Yak horn (stabilized), ram & water buffalo horn, oosic, and a lot of odd handle materials I have picked up along the way.

I was wishing the shield had come with the knife, but apparently it was lost along with the handles.
