Got my first GEC #73........................How disappointing. Most of the back edge of the blade is un-polished.

that's too bad. are you gonna send it back to the factory?

Sorry to hear that. I know my first 2 were an absolute mess and they were sent back. They came back almost a month to the day and in excellent shape as they should be as new knives. I went on to get about 3 dozen or so, all without any issues. I called the number on the tube and she sent me on to Bill Howard, part owner and president. They replaced 3 blades on the 2 knives, I can see that. Good luck, I hope your experience is as good as mine.

BTW, it is real hard to tell the owner of a new company how bad the knives were. My knives actually reached his desk and he looked at them. Shortly after he hired a couple finishers away from Queen. I don't now if my knives had anything to do with that, many others also sent thiers in. I just know that he had to of felt sick when he saw them, I know I did. It all ended well!

Thanks for the reply. I had heard several complaints about the finish on theses knives, and i heard a lot of good things about them, so I figured it would give them a try.

Out of curiosity, are you referring to the spine? I personally wish the stainless were satin finished as well. The polished blades are not quite polished enough for my taste; that is not a problem other than I would just as soon have a satin finish if they are not going to be mirror polished. But anybody that has tried to put a mirror polish on one knows that is a tall order.

Actually Hukk very few have come back. Including yours I have maybe seen a half dozen. I saw one come back that was just beautiful. We could not make it any better to satisfy the customer so we offered a complete refund.

One of the blades is polished nice. The other one, half is polished, the other half is unfinished. I will try to do a picture. Haven't had much luck with close ups.

What is the meaning of the word "TIDIOUTE"?

A city in Pennsylvania. There was once a Tidioute Knife Company, among a few others, like Union Razor. Here is some good info from the guy who knows (PA)...

Thanks for the correction, wrong verbage I think I heard to much from one individual, probably the same one who got his money back, then complained about it.

I do hope you guys come out with a single blade in an old time wood like ebony, one of the rosewoods, or cocoblo. Of course I'm just drooling over the thought of a well built Barlow. A well made Barlow is something I would love to own. IMO, a good one has not been made in a long time. I have plans for a 3 7/8 Barlow of my own, but it may take a while to get to it.

You guys keep up the good work, 3 of my favorite metals are 1095, 440C, and D2. My other favorite, CPM S30V is a bit expensive for a production knife. It would make an excellent specialty steel on a limited edition fixed blade like Canal Street did with the D'Holder's drop point hunter using 19C27 from Sandvik. Dang, that would be sweet. (HINT!)
I guess most guys know GEC has quickly became my favorite! I'll have to take some pictures of my set(s). I'll do that after this weekend when I pick up my son for a couple weeks of fun. We will make a coule knives.

Hukk, did you see the new single blade Beaver Tail that's just come out? This ones in bone but I'd imagine they'll be out in bakote some time in the future. (This is just a guess mind you )

Yep I already have one on order. I would enjoy seeing them use ebony or a rosewood like in yester years. But I must say, the Bakote is a stunner. Thanks for thinking of me, I appreciate it.

Tidioute is indian for "long view" if you went to Tidioute you would see just why as if you look down the river you can see for miles. Nice little town that I recommend you visit if you come to the Queen show in nearby Titusville. About 20 miles away and beautiful country to boot.

Mine still hasn't come back from the factory, I plan to call and check on it next week.

UPDATE: Mine returned today, they replaced the other knife with a new one, that is really nice!

The white bone scales are great and the blades are nice and sharp.

They may have stumbled a little out of the gate, but looks like GE is getting it going now!
