All About Pocket Knives

I was chatting with MM a few weeks ago and mentioned that I had a 1 of 9 Candy Stripe harness jack that was a great knife but the celluloid had started gassing and had even pitted some of the blade.

I didn't want to have to change the candy stripe but I would have to do something..So MM and I bounced ideas about what might work and we came up with the idea of warthog ivory for the new handles with filework. So some Warthog Ivory was located on ebay and I mailed the knife and ivory to him with the Candy stripe.

A few days ago Muskrat Man sent me these pics of my new customized knife. Let me know what you think of his impressive work...

You got the curse right on the celluloid Bill, the folks at Queen or whoever supplied that batch missed the mark on quality..

But at least MM got to show his magic and skill...

That's beautiful Sunny, I'm not in the least surprised, MM takes pride. A quality not as easily found today as years bygone. Congrats to both of you on a great knife.

Great work MM. You made that warthog tusk look great and your filework is sure getting real good.
I was just thinking that using warthog tusk on another knife would be a great tutorial. You just don't see it that often.

It was sure a fun project, I'll take progress pics when I do another one

Yep, I noticed, your filework is improving and your pictures as well, I can see quite a bit of growth. Hopefully I will get back on track after shoulder surgery on June 14. Sometimes I lose feeling in my right hand. It will come back though.

Thanks for the link! I can see some Hippo Ivory coming my way I already have them as an ebay favorite. I will be able to do more once my right shoulder and arm fixed up. Hard to work when there is a loss of feeling in my hand. It will get better.

Got to thinking about a couple knives I have, hippo would be cool.

I looked at Hippo and came close to using that instead of the warthog but MM thought that he could make the hog ivory work..The hippo shouild work fine and it seems to be extremely thick..

What kind of down time are you looking at Hukk???

That knife is horrible, Sunburst! If I were you, I'd get rid of it immediately!

Just to show you what I great guy I am, send the knife to me...I will shoulder the shame of owning such a monstrosity...It will be a burden, but I'll be OK.

If that's what it's going to take, gunsmoke, to free sunburst from the shame that sunburst (as well as his close friends and family) are feeling because of this knife, then yes, I am willing to pay for shipping.

How in the world can I say thanks to that kind, selfless act of generosity by the saintly person that you evidently are.. Next thing you know you will offer up a kidney or lung so I can have a backup if ever needed..No someone else needs to step up and imitate your act of love and kindness..

So in the light of striving to endeavor a selfless positive manner I will hang on this nasty and vile creation by MM and suffer my fate...

Well you can't fault a guy for trying sunburst.

Needless to say, the combination of Schatt&Morgan and MuskratMan makes for one awesome knife.

Throw in some warthog ivory (who'da thunk warthog anything would look so nice) and you can't blame me.

That candystripe #69 HJ is the only Harness Jack of the 3 series that I'm missing. If you all are having trouble with the celluloid than maybe I got lucky by not getting what I wanted
How about the #99 candystripe Ralph, have you heard about any trouble with that celluloid?

Just happened to see this post from Ralph. Ralph, no need to "feel like a heel," as you offered to do whatever necessary to make things right.

It was my choice to keep the knife and see how things played out with Queen. It was a learning experience of sorts for me, so the deal is fine by me.

After several efforts to make contact with someone at Queen...which included sending pictures to the BLACK HOLE that is Ontario...I got Jenny's name and phone number at Queen, by calling Ontario. She was pretty nice and apologetic about it all, but she could not offer any assitance, as the Candy Stripe was procurred by Ken Daniels for some very low runs. Since Ken was now involved with Great Eastern and not working with Queen on any patterns, there wasn't much for anyone to do about the issue.

I've got the Trapper, I doubt it will heal itself, so I can't recommend the Candy Stripe celluloid very highly to anyone, based on MY experience. It's a bit of a shame, because it is pretty cool looking. Well, until it vaporizes.

So as Dan Jenkins said, well before there was a song, in the redneck (that's for Ken) classic, Baja Oklahoma..."That's my story and I'm sticking to it."

Ralph, you sent me running to my Candy stripe knives, to see what is up. I have 3, and 2 of the three have some slight "browning" of the bolsters!! AARRRGGGHHHHHHH!!
I keep a heavy coat of oil on knives I am not using or displaying, so maybe the blades are spared so far, but I have a sinking feeling that these knives also have cellulose-itis!!
More practice for MM!!
