my first and only Golden Rule Co. knife. they were the last company to get into the picture knives after the original patent expired and lasted from 1911 to 1924. Interesting history of Picture handled knives from 1879 patent and the Novelty Co up to the 1940's

Sorry Mick;been tied up working.I have a couple of picture handled knives that haven't destroyed themselves;I'll see if I can dig them out.

I don't know enough yet to bid on high quality, so I am getting rough stuff for now, probably does not excite the old hands, so thanks again

Keep posting your rough stuff Mickey. I'm right there with you on everything you just said. I like the rough ones. They have character and those are the ones that can really catch my imagination. For the most part everything I know about pocket knives (which is limited but growing) I've learned here at aapk. Most of the better condition older knives I have I've bought from fellow members that I trust.
Cool picture knife btw. I haven't acquired myself yet but I've always thought they were neat.

Hugh, I don`t believe that is the case.

If I understand the post correctly Mickey was not looking for information about his knife just showing it to everyone and looking for comments. There were plenty of lookers but no one replied to his post, a recurring theme in this forum.

I don`t know many people who like to talk to themselves, in essence that`s what someone is doing when they post to or start a thread and there are no replies, in this case the thread was up for a week with no replies.

It`s great that so many come here to learn everyday and I highly encourage that but you can still be a complete novice and leave a simple reply like "Nice knife!", "Looks good!", etc., etc. or maybe ask a question about the knife to stimulate a conversation and of course if you have a similar knife post a picture of it.

This place is only as good as we the members make it, if members stop contributing it is going to become a lifeless repository for information, like a book is, plenty of information but no interaction like you can only get with a fellow knife collector.

If something does not change this forum is not going to last much longer.

I certainly hope the forum keeps going. I, who know next to nothing, enjoy reading the posts, seeing the knives and also print/make notes. It's a true education and I want to thank all of you experts for sharing your knowledge.

Yes sir, last month David penned a fine article about office knives!

The Boker and Miller knives I sent to David for photos for use in the article.

M.B. you have struck a chord with me. I work 12-16 hours shift work at a large hospital. I have to get my fix daily of AAPK even if it is for a brief moment/check in on a few post. The info shared and pics provided are great but some threads are not of interest to me related to the topic or knife being discussed. I love all knives but my focus and education revolves around very select cutlery companies. I don't want to be a "jack of all trades" but rather to be one day a master of knowledge with a select few. I don't always have a chance to leave a comment, but I also know what it feels like to have limited or no interest in a thread or topic I've started. Never the less it has never discouraged me from interacting on the forum. Maybe it's just me but I still think this is the BEST forum on the net. I interact on several other forums and none compare in my opinion to this one all around and is what has kept me loyal for these past few years.

I really like that knife world paper, Jerry referred me to the fine article the month before about celluloid when I wondered why the cell on my Aerial and Ulster made HBS looked so good, you may recall those nice swirl patterned handles
I always think of MB when I look at my office knife and all his sage comments. I have many mentors here and unlike Rocky I am still a novice accumulator
I look and learn from many, but don't say knice knife when 10 others have done it but just know I am in awe of the collections of that select dozen Dimitri mentioned. I have purchased a few knives from them as many sell here as well a ebay, I like the fun of biddding and making insulting best offers there, but not here so much because I feel like we are all friends here.

unlike you , who specializes in quality specific types or brands, I accumulate everything in fair to very good
I have some Rems and would not argue they are the finest knives ever made
i would also not argue with Charlie that Robeson is the finest pocket knife ever made
I may soon pick a specialty but not sure if it will be brand, time period, pattern or what
right now I am trying for one of every thing and still can not say what the best or favorite knife in hand is
I like bone, I like english jacks and EO's ,not crazy about muskrats, trappers or congress, OH NO, probably just zinged another group of friends
I am going to hit the books for now and mutter to myself

Hey Mick that's my sleep deprivation hard at work. Lol I am far from being an expert much less a mentor. Like you I bought about 150 knives before I settled in my passion for Remingtons. I love a wide variety of brands but I put my money at work for the one brand I love the most and that's the antique/vintage Remington. I truly love this site and the folks who are here. I would consider MB to be one of my mentors and always trust his input and knowledge. Keep on knife collecting my friend, you will no doubt settle on 1-2 or more particular bands/models when it's all said and done

I am another member who reads a lot and replies a little. I do like that knife, Mickey, thanks for posting the photos. Maybe it is just my eyes, but I have a hard time making out the details of the pictures. It is kind of like a Rorschach test - are those pictures really risqué ladies, or am I just a dirty minded old man?

It is both Dinadan, well in the roaring 20's, risque, but one lady has on a bathing suit with sleeves, the other accutually shows some nips

Hey Mick, I like the Camillus/Remingtons bullet knives a lot. So much so I own all the reproductions from 1982 to 2001. I have yet to add 2002 to 2007. I've spoken to several folks who use to work at Camillus,( Phil Gibbs being one) during this particular reproduction run. Reportedly they had "many" struggles with issues related to production, materials and design yet I find the products very well made and have yet to be disappointed although I have heard others have had issues. I have no plans to go past 2007 for personal choice.

Here's a few of mine'the GRC is the second from the bottom on the right side.

Those are pretty special knives. My fears of out gasing keeps me from collecting vintage knives such as those. I stay away from celluloid knives even the Remingtons for the same fears.
