All About Pocket Knives

i found this knife at a fleamarket for 2 bucks so i picked it up. I have know idea what brand it is or anything! It says ROMO J-202, stainless japan and thats it from what i can read.

Here is what Goins has to say about ROMO, Japan.

"c. 1917 to present. A Trademark used from 1917 to 1924 by Rosenbaum and Mogal, and from 1924 to the present by M. Mogal."
The same description also applies to ROMO Italy and ROMO Germany. They also had knives stamped ROMO New York made between 1917 to 1920.

No clue as to when exactly your knife was made, but my wide guess would be sometime in the 1950's to the 1970's? (just a guess looking at the knife.)

next question. is this a special knife? Like i spent 4 hours just trying to find ANYTHING about it and all i found was ROMO a wholesaler. Then i found that Rosenbaum&Mogal had a connection to ROMO, but that knife said rosenbaum on the tang... Thats why i came here. Thought maybe you guys had some more info than my google search brought up.

Not really a special knife, in my opinion. From the late 1800's to the mid 1900's there were well over a thousand brands (manufacturers and wholesalers) in the US alone, plus the German and English ones. On a lot of them, there just is not a lot of information. I believe my first post did give you more information than that which you already had. It comes from a book written by a gentleman, and his wife, who spent years of research in compiling the information contained within it. Unless someone who collects ROMO knives, or someone with a family connection to the business, reads your post, I don't think you are going to get a lot more information than what you already have.

Yeah i just wondered the year, and if there were any stories behind it! Which you gave me so thanks for the help! I think i am going to clean it up a bit. It defiantly needs a sharpening it is literally as dull as a butterknife.
