All About Pocket Knives

Okay fellers...I'm gonna give this another shot. Tomorrow around noon I'm gonna come up with another question. Ain't sure what it's gonna be yet, but it will be tougher than last week. If any of you guys have an idea for a question, I always up for a suggestion.

Gonna have to postpone for 24 hrs. guys, problems in the office today.

Okay...now that I've got the rocket scientist's heads out of their butts , we can get on with the important stuff. Hopefully this question will require a bit more thinking.

1. What were the first four Classic patterns released?

2. What did not come with them that came with all of the later patterns?

3. What did come with them that did not come with any of the later patterns?

The thrid question should be the difficult one.

Hi Perry… I would say the 1st 4 patterns were the 2100 Saddle Horn, 488 Congress, 394 Gunboat, 254 Trapper… I wasn’t around collecting Classics at the time – but I would say maybe the Classic boxes from Blue Grass didn’t come with the 1st four patterns… And maybe the “Case For Quality” papers came with the first four patterns – but not the rest??? ........ Did I get ‘any’ right??? Gary

Ok Perry - This is a little tougher.. I see that Jim stated in the 100th Anniversary Catalog that the 1st four patterns were going to be #91, #50 , #75 and #72... Figuring Jim had a front seat I guess I'm going with those... Now I'm really confused as most of my Saddle Horns, Congress, Gunboats & Trappers are the one's I've received with the "A Case For Quality" papers...

That would be my guess also. I'm pretty sure the first year there were no Certificates of Authenticity. I speculate that they did come with the bluegrass warranty papers. ...like the ones found with the Winchester knives made by Queen for Bluegrass in the 90s

I don't know my Classics very well either I have no idea about question #1.

A Little additional re-thinking is in order... If the patterns were wrong in my first reply then my answer regarding either the boxes or the "Case for Quality" papers had to be the one that was correct... I've seen where Parker's has stated that the first Classic they sold was the Winchester 2091 and we know they came with the Classic Winchester box.. Were the boxes for the 1st four patterns not furnished by Blue Grass?? I’m pretty sure the “Case for Quality” papers came with patterns later than the 1st four…. Where’s Roger, Bill & Gary when we need ‘em??? (Might have to apply for a time extension on this one until we get some help!!)

the first 4 were made by case IIRC,so they may have got the case papers.The rest were contracted to bluegrass i think.

Okay Fellers...we're gonna do something for "ribbedbumpers" (aka Gary). He was right on the edge of the full answer. Answers are as follows:

1. The first four patterns were:
91
75
50
109

2. What did not come with them was a certificate of authenticity.

3. What did come with them was the Case Qualitity papers. They were also assigned a Case catalog number. Most of the Classics came out after Jim had filed Bankruptcy.

The only thing he didn't quite get was the 109 pattern and he wasn't the one who brought up the COA's. However, he was close enough on all to win something. Shoot me your address Gary and what you like and we'll get you fixed up.

Perry.. Since the answer was totaly a group effort (and not even 100% correct at that) I would suggest we roll the booty forward to the next challenge…

I do have a question... If I understand correctly Case did not produce the first run Classic 2100, 88, 94, & 54 ‘s in house... For some reason I always thought they came from Case.. I have quite a few of those patterns and most of them are in mint condition with their original boxes - and came with the “Case” papers??

Sounds good Gary! I'm starting to work on another question this week. It may be a while before we get to it though, the Blade Show is next week and I'm preparing for it now.

Case did make the 2100, 88, 94, and 54 but, they were not the first Classics produced. Can't say too much now, it might ruin a future question.
