All About Pocket Knives

I have a little sleeveboard pen knife that has MoP scales. (no bolsters) One side is missing about 1/4" of the scale right at the pin. I have found suitable donor pieces of MoP to patch that spot, but was wondering if there is any trick to working with this stuff ? I know it's fairly brittle, I've replaced pearl inlays on a guitar neck before.

Just wondering what glue, filler, etc might be best to get a seamless match. Thanks !

I won't work with MOP because the dust is highly toxic.
My dogs think they have to be in the shop when I am working and I don't have 3 canine respirators for them!
They probably wouldn’t wear them anyway.

I understand it is best to use new drills on MOP.
I imagine the 5 minute epoxy I normally use would work just fine on it.
But rather than patching it, why not replace the whole piece?
You can often pickup a small piece of MOP pretty inexpensively.
It might be easier than trying to patch it.

I'm lazy...........

It's not an expensive knife, just something I thought would be a quick fix. It might be easier to just re-handle the whole thing in a new material. It's just that the MoP is purty

If it's one of the end pins I'd just make bolsters for it

What brand is it? I have a schrade walden cut co mop no bolsters, with bad blades and good skins. Pm if you are interested.

I thought of that too, but I wondered if it wouldn't make it look "bolster heavy" ? This thing is only 2 3/4" closed, and is missing a good 1/4 chunk off one end. I might wind up with more bolster than scales.

I have some pieces of MOP that are 2-3/4" long & 1/2" wide.
Think that would work?

Thanks Dale. I think I'm gonna run with muskrat man's idea first and make bolsters. Seems like the easiest solution, and one I can't screw up completely !
