All About Pocket Knives

The only information that I have is included in the first image which is from the set itself. These were odd gifts as I do not collect, nor does the gifter. But I was not one to argue with my parents. Anyway, any help from those who have more experience in the market would be awesome. Thank you for your time.

Although I have collected Case knives for over 40 years mine are older knives. I don't collect these newer knives nor the sets so am far from expert, but I do watch stuff like this on eBay out of curiosity and interest for knives in general. Since it's been over a month and no one else has responded I will venture an opinion. In general I would say on the low end about $30 per knife plus an added $50 to $100 for being a matched set and in the original display case with certificate. On the high end maybe bump it up to $50 per knife plus the $100. Of course whether you can get this for it all depends on finding a buyer, which might take a while. If you just want to sell them and get cash you might do better, quicker, by breaking up the set and selling the pieces separately.

A search on eBay for completed sales of similar sets would give a better idea. Hope this helps.

With this being a complete set of twelve knives, numbered and all with scrolled bolsters, it would not surprise me if the set was originally priced around $1000 or maybe even a bit more. There's no way of guessing how long it would take you to get that much for the set, maybe even never but if you're patient and want to maximize your return, that's the way to go. If you just want to sell them for what you can get from them, put them on eBay individually with a starting bid of $5 and the market will tell you what you can get out of them. I would wait until income tax time in 2015. Knives seem to sell for more during that period. (Just my observation) Otherwise the beginning of the month seems to be better than the end of the month.

I have to agree with Ken here for whatever that is worth.

I have seen CASE 1977' STAG Engraved/Serialized "Blue Scroll" sets offered at 1000 to 1300 bucks and they only made 1000 sets. Mind you this was 37 years ago and that was considered a "low run set" at the time for CASE. These knives are semi-rare/scarce. 76' Razors Edge Stag set, 15,000 made but seen them sell for up to $750.
A 2004' set, again I agree with Ken's pricing given the right buyer. One never knows though if the seller has time on there side as someone may come along and pony up the cash. No clue or an expert on newer (or older for that matter CASE knives) but the posted link to the member store knives seems abit out of the ballpark to me. Excellent advice on time to sell as I did not consider that. That being said, I would not break the set personally if it were mine. Some guys like me like all the knives to have all the set numbers to match. No 2004' price list to refer to though. For all I know, this could be the most desired set on the planet, just don't study much or have knowledge of about CASE beyond the 90s', even more experience in the earlier ones and that is not expert knowledge. My 2 cents.

Jerry, as my wife will quickly tell you, agreeing with me ain't worth much! I agree with you regarding breaking up these collector sets or dismantling displays and selling the pieces individually. I always hate to see it done but totally understand why many do it. Limited number of folks that can afford or justify the price of a full set or display complete with the knives. Those that can probably have limited room to store them. So the sellers end up with no choice if they want to get their money back.
