Yep. I've always been weary of any kind of holders for my knives.Not because of the ingredients but because of the humidity. If you wrap them up; moisture likes to live with them.

I bought four of these several tears ago.

I placed a variety of smaller knives in two of them in double rows. I filled one other with razors which occupied the entire depth of the slots.

While doing routine inspection some time later, I found two celluloid handled knives and some razors stuck to the black liners of the cases and eighteen previously mint knives with rusting and corroded blades.

I disposed of the two offending knives, cleaned and oiled the remaining, but now "excellent" knives and threw away all four of the green storage cases, one of which had never been used.

I suppose these cases might work well for bone, metal or pearl handled knives, but having to pry my knives out of them with pieces of the black liners firmly stuck to them did it for me.

I wouldn't store number 2 pencils in one of these.

Sound very much like the softening agent in the liner of those boxes reacted with the cello.

The same seller advertises and auctions these for fountain pen collectors, as well.

On the positive side, I was thinking that the physical size of this case would would be be a good for shipping in that it would fit nicely inside a standard size cardboard sleeve. I also agree with the earlier humidity comment which is why I spend about $10/year on these from Wal Mart and put a new one in my gun safe about every month:

Better safe (no pun intended) than sorry and this case, the insurance is very economical.

I used to use knife rolls with elastic hold downs and noticed that they would leave impressions on celluloid and plastic handled knives. I use them for storing kitchen knives and metal letter openers now;I wouldn't put ANY pocket knife in one of them.

Same experience here. Also had problems where elastic in knife roll was in contact with NS shields or bolsters and left stains. Apparently (my best guess) caused by some chemical or outgas from the elastic material. Disposed of the offending knife roll immediately and since then have never used anything with felt or elastic for knife storage.

I had the very same thing happen about 4 years ago when I got a set of Fight'en Roosters. Most of all the bigger knives where stuck to the backing of the case they where in and I got a super deal on them, but took a big chance that they where all ruined. Luckily they all where fine and with just a little bit of cleaning it all came off. It was that felt lined stuff, I would never use it myself and I would suggest you not use it either.
I bought 17 mint never used knives that where all made in the 1970s to mid 1980s for $200.00 because of the fact they where all stuck to the felt backing. I latter sold 2 of the knives for well over the $200.00 I had invested, so I made out very well but it could have been a very bad day if they had not cleaned up.
Just goes to show, take care of your knives if you ever want them to be worth anything.

I might add that some of the Chinese sheaths being sold on eBay have a corrosive finish. If you have a high stainless knife no problem but don't try to store a carbon blade in them.
