i have a old electricians knife
it has BIG ALLIGATOR snap on both blades but the scewdriver tipped blade is especially hard to open
was that common or do i need some different kind of oil???
ive laid the 3in1 oil to seem to help a little
maybe i just got weak fingernails compared to back in the 20s and 40s
thank you

after you add your first add another. cool old knife. it might be tight because of warpage at the blade pivot pin or ?

What brand of knife do you have there? I think I have two similar....
both "MKLEIN&SONS Chicago", the scales are made of different material, one has a nice patina on it, but I know what you mean by a hard pull, both are hard to open the screwdriver blade, I nearly rip my thumbnail off trying to open them.

Do you have a "brass lock shim" between the blades on yours ?

There are two kinds of oil I use on real rusty knives.
Gunk makes a super penetrant oil, I think they are using the name Liquid Wrench on this product.

The other I use is called Hot Sauce. I get it from Bass Pro Shops. It is made for fishing reels, but works wonders to break loose a rusty knife.

There are a couple others with Teflon in them that work good too. One is called 80 & is made by Justice Brothers. Another is made by Slick 50.

They all seem to work well on old rusty knives, but my first choice ids the Gunk Super Penetrant. About $179 at my local Ace Hardware.

I hope this helps,
Dale

Surely that is a typo? It better oil the knife itself and remove rust on it's own for $179

 Well, it is oil, give it another couple years and it just may cost $179.00.  I usually use Rem Oil with teflon, just because I have it on hand, but I also use Liquid wrench for a penetrating fluid. everything Dale mentioned is good and well regarded. ::tu::
