All About Pocket Knives

hello everyone new here so if this an old questions please be kind. I just started getting into rehandling knives with stag and was wondering what factories use as a finnish or sealer on stag and how they get the look they do on them. thanks

Case "torches" thier stag to give it that rich dark appearence. This can be accomplished by use of a torch, or holding it for a long period of time on the buffer, you need a fast buffer though with a high rpm to accomplish this.

thanks muscrat but what i was trying to say was the final look my factory knives have seem more like polished stone or harder than what i end up with do you know what im trying to say this might sound dumb but can you wet sand stag to really get it smooth

Sort of "shiny' looking like this one?
Maybe a Superglue type finish?

yes very shiny and hard never heard of super glue finish? what is this just reg superglue?

superglue finish consists of rubbing on 2 or more coats or regular super glue (liquid) on, sanding then buffing. I have managed to get some very highly polished stag with only a buffer.

Using a loose buff I buff the stag with No Scratch Pink compound. Then I finish it off by applying solid carnauba wax with a loose buff. I then remove any heavy spots of the wax by hand rubbing the stag with an old cotton towel.

I usually apply 5-7 coats of carnauba to the stag that I do.

The resulting finish is shiny and easily restored by buffing should the finish become dull with use.
