I know the factory was located on Noyes Street in Utica, New York.

Had I known that back in 1988, I might have become a Utica collector instead of a Robeson collector.

I'd like to find some sort of dating system. Utica/KutMaster didn't seem to use very many variations on their tang stamps. What history is available for them says that the KutMaster stamp was begun in 1937 but doesn't say when, or even if, the UTICA stamp was ever discontinued. I see that the modern UTICA stamp has gone back to the arched stamp. The two variations that I see for the KutMaster stamp are: KUTMASTER/UTICA NY/MADE IN USA and KUTMASTER/UTICA NY/USA. Wondering which is older.

From all the knives I have seen the KUTMASTER/UTICA NY/MADE IN USA was used right up till the 1960`s then the KUTMASTER/UTICA NY/USA. was used after that.

They made a slew of knives for the U.S. government during WWII and all of those different knives had MADE IN USA in the tang stamp. So these can be dated pretty accurately during this period of time.

I'd have never guessed that this knife would be that new. Guess I've still got a lot to learn

I received the knife this AM and you are probably right about the 60's date. The knife is good and solid with excellent walk and talk (it snaps both ways like Oprah going after Mr. Blister's custard HET!! HET!!) and half-stops, but fit and finish is no where near what you'd expect in an older, WWII or pre-WWII, knife. I probably paid a little too much for it, but it will make an excellent carry knife. It doesn't look like it's ever been used.

Thanks Dale. I like the knife, just wish the F&F were better. I'm beginning to feel that the Kutmaster brand was the secondary brand to Utica, think Camillus/Camco, which would explain the lesser F&F.
