In a thread how do I reply to specific members post?

When reading a post and lets say I wanted to respond to one of Jerry's comments, how do I do that? I've seen people do it many times but I think there may be a different way other than using the cut and paste method and I'm not sure that would even work.

Hit the "quote" button down there on the bottom right of the post you want to quote, instead of "post reply"
