All About Pocket Knives

Are they still being made? Value? Hi/low/medium?
Any way to date them?

Early knives marked C.Bertam, Mutts,Fife, Voss, Gutmann will bring a premium and are of great quality IMO.
Knives made between 1975 -1980 are made under Ag Russell ownership and are also high quality. These knives are marked "Bertram". Knives after 1980 are marked Bertram Cutlery, Solingen Germany. These knives are made by Klaas, and Boker by contract and imported by Jim Frost. These knives are lesser quality but still good knives IMO. Then there are the latest knives to hit the market, marked Bertram Cutlery but not Solingen Germany,they are marked German stainless. They also have knives made in Spain. Hen and Rooster International is another marking made mostly in China.

Just to tack onto Tim's reply:

I bought an H & R Damascus lockback today at a pawn shop, and was hoping it was Solingen-made.

I called Frost Cutlery and talked to a very helpful and knowledgeable rep named Gill. He said that if it didn't have Solingen stamped on it, it was made in their facility in Spain. But, he said the Spain facility is now shut down, so going forward all H & R knives (with the exception of some kitchen cutlery) would be made in Solingen

I've been carrying a Bear MGC Damascus half congress for a while, so I think I will sharpen my new H & R and tote it for a while.
