All About Pocket Knives

Now how in the world can bone be sacred ??.....especially after it has been separated from the hoof.

Well, here's the straight skinny from Titusville.

GEC has secured a certain amount of very OLD bone from a cattle graveyard. Now, I have never heard of a cattle graveyard , but I suppose one does exist somewhere. Enough of that !!

This bone has some very peculiar looks to it. Some say it is very similar to the 20,000 year old stuff that is excavated from the ice age. It has not been used on knife handles before now.

I am suppose to have images this PM after Ken Daniels gets back home in Ohio from a weekend in Titusville.

We should have the first knives available late this week...as TECHMAN stated, it will be HOT !!!

That "Sacred Bone" along with the universal praise for GEC around here of late, plus the fact that I'm partial to the UN-X-LD GECs has put me over the top.

I've got to get one. (If I can!)

It does look fossilized, I've got the two Prototypes here on my desk. Ryan Daniels (Ken's son) sold them to me this weekend. He said that the Proto's don't quite look like the full run that's being made. If Bill can't get his photo's up tonight, I will post pictures of these tomorrow.

Thanks for showing tose pictures. I'll be darned, I do have a pair of scales that look just about like that, except they are mammoth rib bone. Especially the backside of the knife. I like it, a lot! Well, this is going to cost me.

They laid in the earth for years and the weather, ground and minerals did each bone differently. They are great.

That is why I got it Hukk, It looks great and it was hard to pick just one.

The mammoth rib bone cost $40.00 stabilized almost forgot the decimal, 4000 ooops that ain't right, you guys ain't gonna belive that one . I will get at least a couple, if not more they are unique to be sure. There has been nothing like these on the market in decades, if ever. GEC is filling the void that Case and Bulldog, amongst others that I've seen available for the last couple years. The offeings of quality steels, good proven patterns, and unique handle material. GEC is to be commended for their fresh perspective and offerings. It gives the American cutlery industry a well needed shot in the arm and hopefully challenges the others to up the ante.

This is the way to go against the Chinese knife market, not to see who can sell the least expensive knife.That last option is to fight a battle that can't be won, a battle on their grounds just can't be won.

Not to knock a lot of the cutlery companies out there, but I'm tired of that cookie cutter steel and it's variants the 420HC family. Sheet rolls and stamp them out. I do undertand them doing this, cost effectve.

It's real refreshing to have 1095 and 440C as primary steels. It would be nice to see a good old fashion Barlow (3 7/8 please) again along with a stockman, a timeless pattern. 3 7/8 is only about 10% different than a 3 1/2 inch, but for me it's the difference between dainty and usable.

It's my guess that you guys would need to retool to put out other patterns (highly expensive), just guess based on how I imagine the production facility is set up.
Keep up the great work, I for one appreciate it. Don't forget the 3 7/8 or 3 3/4 inch Barlow! I keep looking at the burnt stag trappers and thinking of it on that Barlow, although the original idea of a Barlow was low cost and stag is not. I guess ebony would fit the bill. (somene correct me if I'm wrong on that)

As a matter of fact I was talking to someone from an old company last week about how nice it would be for GEC to make a Barlow for them.
