All About Pocket Knives

First off, it's my first post - please be gentle, I really have very limited knife knowledge. I have a old Buck 110 that I purchased new in the late 60's (or very early 70's) as a hunting knife. On my first hunting trip, I broke the brass pin in the grip, and the knife was a free-swinging blade - hard to use like that!. I sent it back to Buck with $10.00 and asked that they replace the brass pin with a stainless pin. They did, and returned my money, along with a note that future 110's were being made with the stainless pin - guess I wasn't the only one. So, I'll try to describe the knife configuration. ( I haven't mastered posting pictures yet) The blade has the BUCK over U.S.A. on the left side (edge pointed down) in the inverted position, no other markings at all. The front bolster shows a flush rivet on both sides. The rear bolster shows two flush rivets, also on both sides. The scales have two tiny brass rivets, equally spaced from bolsters. The liners are brass. The pin is stainless, slight head, but not original, as I noted above. The sheath is black leather, with B U C K stamped over a stainless (?) button stamped BUCK. On the back is stamped 110 over the belt loop. Overall, the knife shows very little wear or use - not so for the sheath. I don't know if it is a collectible or not, it's just a good hunting knife to me. Thank you for your patience! Any ideas??? (great forum!!!)

Croatalus, Welcome to AAPK and to the Buck sub-forum - glad to have you! There are many subtle variations of the 110 from the era of your knife. I have posted a link to a listing of those variations and the Variation numbers assigned by collectors. Take the knife in hand an compare to the charts; once you have figured out how to post pictures on AAPK we will be able to give you a little more help. OH

sounds like a version 4 variation 1, see if it has 2 lines in the butt showing it as a version 4 if the spacer is brass,when you replaced the rocker rivet you made it a clone for a version 4 var.2, I think all the brass rocker riveted and brass butt 110's came before the version 5,it's probably a 1970, check inside for a square spring that is one of the 110's Buck used them on. I've been gone for a long time, the ver.3 var 8 has what looks like the same stamp as the 4 1 if Buck said they were going to a ss rocker rivet the next year it's a 4 -1, if it has a cast integeral frame it's a 3 8 but buck built the 3 9 with a brass rocker and they went to SS on the ver 4 var2
