All About Pocket Knives

Can anyone give me a quick tutorial on Schrade vs. Schrade-Walden?

Which came first....which is considered more "collectable", of better quality, fit and finish, etc.

This is probably a question better ask in the Knife Lore forum. LT in the Knife Lore forum is an expert on Schrade.

Do checkout Larry site. Use a regular contributor here on AAPK, a heck of a nice guy, and has done a wonderful job with his web site. You will find a ton of information about Schrade's there.

A quick rough chronology of the names used:
Schrade Cut Co was used from 1904 until about 1946.
Schrade Walden was used from approximately 1946 to 1973.
Schrade was used from 1973 until 2004.
It is sort of a progression of names used by the same company as ownership changed & mergers took place.

Dale is certianly correct about the name progression.

As for the highest value; depends. I'm selling USA made Schrades (1973-2004) as fast as I can find them while the market is still a little hot. Unreal prices some of them still fetch. But what I'll spend real money on for my own collection is the old Schrade Cuts.

Dale pretty much covered it all but let me add that the schrade walden and schrade cut co knives tend to take and hold a better edge than the newer ones marked Schrade or Schrade +
