All About Pocket Knives

Hey Guys, I can't seem to find out much info about this knife. It says J Primble Belknap Germany 7007. On both blades. I think that this tang was only used in 1955 and it was the only year they used cow bone? I bought for $6...any idea approx sale value? Can't find any comparables?

Interesting knife! The front bolster is very reminiscent of the first style Case folding hunter although I believe that was quite a bit before 1955.
I have seen this pattern used on Japanese made knives but don't recall ever seeing one made in Germany.

Thanks...how do I know if this is Delrin or Cow Bone? Any ideas?

Look at the edges of the handle slabs. If it's delrin the edge will be smooth and consistant in color. If it's bone you should see some tiny canal or pores. It may take a magnafying glass or loupe to be able to see those. They are the capilaries (blood vessels) in the bone tissue.

Is there a star tang stamped anywhere? A good indication of a boker

Belknap did import some German made knives in the mid-50's. They are marked GERMANY somewhere. They do not have a star on them, those knives came later and were made by Boker, USA, I think.

The mid-50's German marked Primbles are quite rare as I think they only imported them for one year.

I had a nice bone handled three blade serpentine stockman back when I was collecting Primbles. It was the most valuable one I owned. I had eighteen Primbles at one time, but sold them all and thirty-six 1970 Case knives when I decided to concentrate on Robesons.

One has to be careful, however. James Parker imported some well made knives from Germant, marked with an authentic appearing Primble tang stamp and "GERMANY". There are no date marks on those knives and I know some of them looked exactly like my old stockman.

I know all that because I bought on off Ebay a few years ago and ended up donating it to the NKM.

I do think the knife above is most likely a genuine circa 1956 Primble import. although I never encountered that particular pattern when I was chasing them.

Could you show us the tang stamps, front and back, if that applies?
