Case 61048 SP---CASE XX U.S.A.

I'm mostly a Schrade guy, but I got an old Case for Christmas and it looks like it's a keeper...based on what I'm seeing it is a slimline trapper with spey blade only, vintage '65-'69. Chrome blade, red bone handles. At first glance it seems like this particular model was a bit less common than the two blade version, and even less so with the spey blade. Any of you Case guys have any insight on this variation?

waggo71,
Can't say much about your knife other than it is a great looking 048 pattern Case. I have several of the 048 pattern, some are almost used up and some are NIB but none with just a spay blade. Mr. Pfeiffer's book on Case knives lists your knife as as a 61048SP. I would guess that it is not as common as the 61048's with a clip blade

. Somebody ought to be by that knows something more about your Christmas present. I do agree with you that it is a keeper

Nice knife. A 48 pattern with a single spey blade is less common than one with single clip. Not sure I'd call those "red bone" handles. As a matter of fact I wouldn't call any XX USA knife "red bone". I would call some of it the prettiest bone Case ever made.
