All About Pocket Knives

Has anyone ever ever seen 1 of these. Does anyone have any info about it?

Looks very similar to a British Army Knife with the main blade broken off.

"clasp knife", military. Versions made for British Army, other militaries in Europe; Belgium and Italy come to mind. All in the same basic format, you can buy them new made by Rodgers. All-metal varieties are available new, also, with blade/can opener,spike; blade/can opener; or blade only.

There are versions, Belgian, for sale now that were manufactured in the '50's. In excellent condition.

The spike is usually referred to as a pick, and was designated to remove pebbles from horses hooves.

Many times described as naval, not necessarily so, however.

I don't recall ever having heard the word "pick" used to describe a marlinspike and it was designed to aid in the tieing and untieing of knots in heavy rope.A larger version of the spike is known as a fid.
Although I suppose it could be used to remove stones from a horse's hoof it would be a bit dangerous as it might cause injury to the horse(and the user)if the horse moved suddenly.
It was designed primaily as a naval tool;the flat edge of the blade being ideal for cleanly slicing off rope;the can opener for opening tins of food,and the aforementioned use of the spike. They were used by other branches of the military but likely only because they were already available and didn't need to have a job specific knife.JMHO
