PICKED UP THIS ADVERTISER KNIFE, MADE IN GERMANY.
HAS A LUBOT CO. STAMP.
ALL I COULD FIND OUT WAS IT WAS BASED IN CINCINNATI OHIO.
THIS WAS OUT OF A OLD GOINS A 1978 COPY

Goins “Encyclopedia of Cutlery Markings” shows a number of knives like that; he shows a tang stamp, but nothing else.
Apparently he had seen the marking on a knife but was unable to gather any information as to the maker or origin of the knife.

One like yours was sold on ebay in 2007.

The name Lubot appears in some European industrial companies, one which makes food handling equipment for the UK.

There is also a German company named Lubot, though I could not find any that made knives, but I don’t read German.


I would guess, (and it is just that; a guess), that the knife was made for a hardware company or knife importer, but I can find nothing online to support that.

Nice looking knife though!

The company that is advertised on the Knife went out of business in 1967.

Apparently the felt industry used ad knives as a form of advertising.
IIRC, I saw a post some time ago of someone’s collection of felt company ad knives. Perhaps someone remembers where that was posted.

i have looked trying to find any info on net about mark. have not found much, funny about what the name means,
did look on some paper search and said it had 1 match for a LUBOT HARDWARE,
Knife does not look to be older than 40s by the jigging type of bone and color
looks like you could find more info on it,

does it look older than that to any of you guys

The meaning of the name Lubot makes it a little more interesting.

OK, i think you will be able to put a foot note in your goins on this one... after much key punching and looking . I have figured this one out!!

ok in goins he has it as a Cinciinnati 0hio in the 1978 book i have, i ran across some post in other sites that had the same knife with the same ad
also i ran across on that had a OHIO KNIFE CO. shield based in Cincinnati, which makes blade knives for machines such as for textiles and such.
and i think this stamp was linked to this knife, as one of theirs branded with this stamp. i think the maker is the German maker LUBOTES which is
the maker two names up above his LUBOTCO ENTRY

I found this info online also.

Apparently someone was looking for info in 2000 on this same maker.

Ii was thinking it was probably you who posted them, & I was right.

Looks to me that "LUBOTCO" is all one word.

Surely, the "CO" stands for "Company", but as to what the "LU" and the "BOT" might stand for I haven't a clue.

Think "NABISCO", which is an acronym for "National Biscuit Company".

It looks like the knife has been rehandled. The pivot pins look like carbon steel and the bolsters are nickle silver. Looks like the knife was apart at one time or another.

Iron pins are common on German made knives.

While searching the internet yesterday about this, I saw multiple examples of this very knife. They all looked the same.

IM A LITTLE LATE ON THIS POST BUT I HAVE THE SAME KNIFE IN NEW CONDITION. ONE JUST SOLD ON EBAY NOV 1 2024 WITH 3 BIDS AT $35.00. THE SELLER STATES IN HIS OPINION IT IS PRE 1940S. JUST THOUGHT I WOULD ADD TO THIS POST. I WONT BE SELLING MINE UNTIL I CAN FIND SOME CONCRETE ANSWERS ABOUT ITS HISTORY.
