All About Pocket Knives

had to get this knife for historical reasons and to 'feel' it
boy, do these old knives snap, and have half stops
1843-1913, wonder how old and what the blade is suppose to look like?

I'd say the blade was probably a hawk bill. I have a quill knife made from Waterville some in this house. I like those heavy knives, good find.

any thoughts on the rarity or value of this knife?
is it historic, common, rare, or a broken junk knife?
I enjoy all my knives for now but I think I will be refining my collection and weeding out many in the future

I would defnately keep it in my collection. I believe the dates are 1843-1913 could be wrong. The blade has been sharpened but that's to be expected it was used as a tool. I would say the knife is on the rare side to make it this long and still look as nice as it does its full of character.

Pretty much I think.

I think the last person who took a grinder to that that old knife should be dropped kicked!
They may think they cleaned it up, but all they did was ruin the value of the knife.

No doubt it was a nice hawkbill when it was new.
Now at best it is a poor example of the tang stamp, and they have even ground part of that off!



There should be an attachment on ALL bench grinders that deploys whenever someone approaches the grinder with a knife, then attachment comes flying out and hits them in the groin ..........................................................repeatedly!!
